At 10:39 a.m., police responded to the 500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard on a call of two pedestrians struck, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.

Police found two women, one of whom was Laura Cuevas, struck in the aftermath of a two-car crash that saw one vehicle striking a wall at Arts High School, Fragé said. Cuevas was pinned against the exterior wall of the building, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

Another teacher and the two drivers sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at University Hospital, authorities said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigation Bureau is conducting the investigation, authorities said.
